How the road base calculator works
Finished geometry and loose order volume are shown separately. The calculator multiplies area by compacted depth, then applies the allowance you provide.
Road-base gradation, moisture and compaction effort control how loose volume becomes finished volume. There is no honest universal factor.

Measure and order road base
Measure the compacted layer, not the full excavation if other materials occupy part of it.
Confirm delivery increments and whether the supplier quotes loose cubic yards or tons. Record moisture conditions if weight is used.
Road Base Calculator questions
Is road base the same as gravel?
Road base is usually a graded, compactable aggregate blend; decorative gravel may not behave the same way.
Does this calculate tons?
No. Entering a generic density would create false precision; use the supplier’s conversion for the actual material.
Should I include bedding sand?
No. Calculate each layer at its own finished depth.
