How the roofing shingle calculator works
The calculator multiplies horizontal footprint by the geometric pitch factor to get sloped area, adds the entered allowance, converts area to roofing squares and then to whole bundles.
This works for simple planes. Dormers, hips, valleys, overhangs and different pitches should be measured as separate roof faces.

Use roof footprint including overhangs, not conditioned floor area. Confirm pitch on each plane.
Count ridge cap, starter, underlayment, flashing and ventilation separately. Bundle coverage can vary by product line.

Are there always three bundles per square?
No. Enter the coverage for the exact shingle product.
Does the calculator include ridge cap?
No. Ridge and hip products are linear quantities and should be counted separately.
