How the feet and inches calculator works
Construction measurements often mix whole feet with fractional inches, while estimating software expects decimal feet. The calculator divides inches by 12 and adds the result to whole feet.
The reverse mode snaps the inch remainder to a readable sixteenth, so floating-point noise does not become a fake tape-measure precision.

Measure and order feet and inches
Write 7½ inches as 7.5, not 7.50 feet. Those values are different by more than seven inches.
Keep more decimal places during calculations than you use for a final cut mark. Round only once, at the end.
Feet and Inches Calculator questions
Is 6 inches equal to 0.6 feet?
No. Six inches is 0.5 feet because a foot contains 12 inches.
Can inches be greater than 12?
Yes. The calculator normalizes them; 18 inches is the same as 1 ft 6 in.
Why round to a sixteenth?
A sixteenth is a common readable tape increment and avoids displaying meaningless binary-decimal noise.
